How To Be Cool - With Trends

Trends are very cyclical, and that is a funny thing about not only design, but life. So, you may be wondering, what is the next big shift that we see coming next?

We are seeing a real movement away from open-concept living. The idea of a more defined space. One specific area dedicated to one thing. A room that knows what it is.

This may be coming as a surprise to you, or maybe not, but this shift has started, showing up in new builds and renovations alike.

Here's an important distinction: closed concept does not mean a return to four walls and a door, but more an intentional division between each space. This can even be implemented in subtle ways such as furniture placement, screens, and a change in flooring.

One of the most exciting things about a more defined space is that you are able to infuse more personality into each area. You are able to have a dark, moody dining area, while having a bright, open kitchen, with the space feeling cohesive. While in an open concept space this may feel jarring, a defined space makes it feel intentional.

This is the beauty we find in closed concept living. The ability to create spaces with distinct feelings, without sacrificing a cohesive home through the use of common threads tying it all together.

The overall result of this is a home with more depth and personality, allowing each space to be itself, which we think is pretty cool.
